At Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club, we serve with one purpose: to inspire and enable youth ages 6 to 18 to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club (HHBGC) has been providing a safe place for St. Louis’s youth to learn and grow since 1967. Founded on the site of historic Sportsman’s Park, former home to the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals baseball teams, the Club is a source of hope and opportunity for more than 3,500 youth. We now serve youth at three sites and two 21st Century Community Learning Centers in St. Louis: at Sportsman’s Park in North City, South City’s Adams Park, Hazelwood Southeast Middle School in Spanish Lake, Adams Elementary School, and Columbia Elementary School.
Nearly all of the youth we serve are growing up in single-parent households (92%) and are considered low-income (95%). HHBGC youth often face multiple challenges, such as lack of income for basic needs, dilapidated housing, family instability, and exposure to violence and drug use. To meet those challenges, HHBGC offers high quality, comprehensive programs which address the wide range of risks faced and skills needed by youth.
There are still more children in our community that need the kind of positive influence and guidance that the Club provides. In order to do so, HHBGC needs the generosity of local foundations, corporations, and especially individuals.
It Just Takes One…The 2010 Annual Campaign, or the “One Campaign”, was created to raise gifts for the Club’s after-school programs and services. In the current economic environment and with the additions of four new service centers over the last two years, this is especially important.
Facts about giving and The One Campaign:
- Nationally, 85% of donations given to charities are from individuals
- For Boys & Girls Clubs 10% of donations are from individuals
- For HHBGC 12% of donations are from individuals
- Our overall campaign goal for the One Campaign in 2010 is to raise $256,000 of the Club’s annual operating budget of $4,000,000
- Funds raised in this campaign are unrestricted and will be used for general operating expenses and are absolutely necessary to run our successful organization
- The cost of providing our services to each child at HHBGC is $1,250 annually
The campaign began with “family” first, and we’re proud to report 100% participation by our staff.
